The line of Tristan Broz, Miko Matikka and Aidan Thompson accounted for eight points — four by Broz — in No. 6 Denver’s 6-1 victory over Niagara on Saturday.

Junior goaltender Matt Davis made 27 saves, and Broz had two goals and two assists. Broz’s output tied his career high helped DU sweep its final non-conference series of the season. Davis playing consecutive game games for the Pioneers (14-5-1) was significant because the junior missed 13 games after aggravating a lower-body injury against Augustana on Oct. 27.

Carter King scored his NCAA-leading fourth shorthanded goal and career-high 12th midway through the third period. Matikka scored his 12th off a rush just 1:29 into the game.

Broz and Jared Wright helped DU to a 3-0 lead midway through the second. Thompson struck on a power play early in the third. Rieger Lorenz added two assists.

Tyler Wallace scored on the power play in the second period for Niagara (7-13-1).

Up next: DU plays host to No. 14 St. Cloud State on Friday and Saturday. The series will see the return of coach David Carle, defenseman Zeev Buium, director of hockey operations Travis Culhane and equipment manager Nick Meldrum. The quartet was part of Team USA’s gold-medal-winning squad at the World Junior Championships.
