No. 6 Denver rallied from a two-goal deficit to earn a 4-4 tie with No. 14 St. Cloud State on Saturday. The Huskies picked up an additional NCHC point by winning a shootout.

The Pioneers (15-5-2, 5-3-1 NCHC) took four of six points from the first-place Huskies (11-6-3, 7-1-2).

Special Teams Deliver for DU

All three of Denver’s second-period goals came on the power play, from Miko Matikka (14th), Aidan Thompson and Carter King (13th). Matikka struck for the second night in a row with the man advantage.

DU also killed off all three of its penalties.

Jack Devine scored his NCAA-leading 18th goal 12:40 into the game and Matt Davis made 30 saves for the Pioneers. Shai Buium and Zeev Buium added two assists apiece.

Friday night

Massimo Rizzo scored two goals and DU tallied the final five goals of the game — all in the second period — to hand the Huskies their first regulation NCHC loss of the season, 5-1.

Jared Wright, Reiger Lorenz and Matikka also scored for the Pioneers. Three of the five DU goals came on special teams — Rizzo’s power-play goal 1:39 into the second, Lorenz’s short-hander with 3:42 to go, and Matikka’s PPG with 4.2 seconds left.

Davis made 29 saves for Denver, which outshot the guests 37-30.
