NCHC gives Pioneers a high five

A total of five players from No. 1 Denver were selected to NCHC All-Conference teams, it was announced Wednesday. League coaches and players voted for the teams.

Senior defenseman Will Butcher repeated as a pick on the first time, where he was joined by junior goaltender Tanner Jaillet.

Sophomore forward Dylan Gambrell, an all-rookie selection last season, was joined on the second team by freshman forward Henrik Borgstrom, an all-rookie pick this season.

Sophomore forward Troy Terry was an honorable mention pick.

The conference’s top-scoring defenseman, Butcher’s 25 points were also fifth in the league. His 22 assists and plus-18 rating in 24 games led the conference as well. Overall, the 2013 Colorado Avalanche draft pick has 34 points in 36 games, and team bests in plus-minus (plus-24) and blocked shots (71).

Jaillet led NCHC goalies in wins (16), win percentage (.833 on a 16-2-3 record), goals-against average (1.65) and save percentage (.936). His 23 overall wins lead Division I hockey. His overall GAA of 1.85 is fourth in D-I, and his .929 save percentage is sixth. He is a free agent.

Gambrell tied with Butcher at 25 points, including 10 goals. He was a plus-15. His 35 overall points are tied for 35th in Division I. He was a 2016 pick of the San Jose Sharks.

Borgstrom’s 12 goals were tied for third most in conference play, where he totaled 19 points. Overall, the 2016 Florida Panthers draft pick has 36 points (T29th) and 21 goals (T8th) in 30 games.

Terry, a 2015 Anaheim Ducks draft choice, has 31 points – including 16 goals – in 28 games.
