No. 3 Denver doesn’t need to call Ghostbusters.

When the Pioneers found themselves in a scary situation they called their top line. And Carter Mazur, Massimo Rizzo and Casey Dornbach answered.

The trio accounted for all four DU goals in a 4-2 comeback victory over Miami at Oxford, Ohio, on Saturday afternoon. It was a continuation of the trio’s work Friday when Mazur, who had two goals Saturday, rang up his first NCAA hat trick with assists from Rizzo and Dornbach on all three.

Rizzo had three more assists Saturday and scored the clinching empty-net goal with 1:12 to play for good measure.

One day after keeping the Redhawks (4-3-1, 0-2-0 NCHC) off the scoreboard courtesy of Magnus Chrona’s first shutout of the season, Denver (6-2-0, 2-0-0) had to rally in the third period.

Early in the third period, down 2-1, Mazur knotted the score for the second time. He scored what proved to be the winner with 7:11 play, which was fitting for a couple of reasons. First, it seemed like Mazur was open all weekend, and second, he helped DU’s power-play get off a 0-for-5 skid. The sophomore roofed a shot in tight over Miami’s Ludwig Persson (38 saves).

Mazur has 10 goals and 12 points in eight games, Rizzo has 11 assists among his 14 points, and Dornbach has four goals among his 12 points.

Dornbach pulled Denver into a tie for the first time 5:16 into the second period.

Miami seized the lead with 1:06 left in the first when Matthew Barbolini finished a two-on-one with P.J. Fletcher seconds after the Redhawks used their timeout. Miami had iced the puck and had a face-off to Persson’s right. The puck was drawn back toward the DU defense, but the defenseman slipped and Fletcher was off the races. He held up long enough to give Barbolini a clear shot on Chrona (18 saves).

John Waldron gave Miami the 2-1 lead almost 4 minutes after Dornbach scored. Waldron’s tally came on the second half of a double minor to Tristan Broz.

Notes: Denver will play host to No. 2 St. Cloud State next weekend. … Defenseman Mike Benning had assists on Denver’s last two goals. … Rizzo had 10 shots on goal, and Mazur added six.
