Denver falters again on Friday, losing 4-1 at Arizona State

Friday’s don’t seem to agree with No. 4 Denver of late.

The Pioneers fell at No. 20 Arizona State, 4-1, keeping them winless in their past four Friday games (0-2-2).

Junior center Jaakko Heikkinen scored a goal for the third game in a row and freshman goaltender Magnus Chrona made 26 saves for DU (9-4-2), which is 1-4-2 in its past seven games.

Johnny Walker scored three goals for the Sun Devils (8-4-1), including two in the first period. He added a power-play strike with 1:20 to go before Brett Gruber finished the scoring with 33 seconds left.

The Pioneers had lengthy stretches of puck possession, particularly in the second period, but could not dent Evan DeBrouwer (33 saves) until Heikkinen struck with 9:26 to go in the game.
