By comparison, he had 10 points all of his freshman season. One of the team’s leading humorists brought his A game while taking some sweet feeds from the Mayhem recently.

Your name has come up a lot when I ask this question, so I’m counting on you to break the tie: Who is the team comedian?

In my mind I think Hilly (Blake Hillman) and Troy Terry are the two team comedians. I also think I’m a comedian, but in my eyes Hilly and Troy are the two.

Do they have a specific style? Just the comments?

Just how they talk and act around the dressing room. They’re funny guys.

Are you a fan of New Year’s resolutions?

No.

Are you particular about any of your hockey gear?

Yeah, my sticks. I don’t like it when people touch my sticks. I usually go left to right when I get dressed, start with my left side. I don’t know if that’s particular.

It’s well established – at least on Magness Mayhem – that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So what is the breakfast of champions?

For me, it’s going to sound weird, it’s peanut butter on toast with pickles on it and a side of oatmeal.

Wow.

Yeah, I think my mom showed it to me when I was young and I’ve loved it ever since. … My roommate Troy thinks it’s weird but I love it.

What was your reaction, speaking of your roommate, during World Juniors, when you probably had a different rooting interest than he did? How was that for you (as a Canadian) to see how that gold-medal game unfolded?

I had to cheer for him whenever he was on the ice, but when he was off the ice I cheered for Canada. I was right in the middle. But whenever he was on the ice I was cheering for the U.S.

That is a lot to keep track of.

I had to. It’s one of my teammates and one of my best friends, so I had to cheer for him.

What’s your favorite part of Denver?

There’s a lot of good things here. It feels like home for me; I’m from British Columbia. When I go to other places in America it kind of feels different, but this place feels like Canada. Lots of nice people. The people, the environment are my favorite things.

Do you have a favorite road trip with the team?

Miami is my favorite. The student section is my favorite when we’re playing there. It’s right above our net so they get loud. And they have a live DJ.

Did you play other sports growing up?

Yeah I played baseball growing up until Grade 8. I loved it but hockey just took over after that.

Did you have a favorite hockey player growing up?

I loved Paul Coffey growing up and he’s still my favorite hockey player. I always watched his highlights because of my dad. When I grew up Joe Sakic was the other one because he was actually playing, whereas Paul Coffey I had to watch highlights.

Do you like music?

I like every type of music.

I’ve heard there are some pretty good DJs on the team, is that true?

Evan Cowley is the DJ on our team. … His phone is always on in the dressing room so he controls the music every day.
