A wise hockey man once said, “You’ll miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.”
How true. Fortunately for Denver, the Pioneers aren’t shy when it comes to loading up and firing away. Part 3 of MagnessMayhem.com’s Denver hockey player survey takes a look at the Pioneers’ shooting stars.
Previously, the players took up these topics:
Part 2 dealt with strength and toughness
Now on to part 3 of our exclusive Denver hockey player survey.
Question 8: Which player has the hardest shot?
- Brett Edwards – 46 percent
- Jack Doremus – 38 percent
- Liam Finlay, Tyson McLellan – 8 percent
Analysis: Edwards hasn’t had lots of opportunities to showcase his shot because he’s often played down lineup, and when he’s on the power play it’s typically in front of the net. Doremus makes annual appearances in this category.
Question 9: Which player has the most accurate shot?
- Bobby Brink – 45 percent
- Cole Guttman – 23 percent
- Jack Doremus, Brett Edwards, Liam Finlay, Tyson McLellan – 8 percent
Analysis: Brink has scored a handful of goals that I’ve wondered how he saw the opening, and then how he got the puck there before the goalie got there. He’s very dangerous when he has a one-timer opportunity. Guttman is able to pick his spots from a variety of locations, and his ability to sort through the trash in front of the net and score has impressed me. The other four all were mentioned in hardest shot as well. Don’t sleep on the power plus accuracy skill sets.
Question 10: Which player has the quickest release?
- Brett Edwards – 68 percent
- Bobby Brink, Jake Durflinger, Emilio Pettersen, Tyler Ward – 8 percent
Analysis: So Edwards can bring it, and bring it quickly. This sounds a lot like the profile for former Pioneer Jarid Lukosevicius, who incidentally was cast in a similar role during his freshman season. Brink and Pettersen also have stood out in this regard, and I was mildly surprised they didn’t receive more votes.
