We are less than two weeks away from the beginning of Denver’s 2019-20 hockey season, the program’s 70th. That means Magness Mayhem is in training for another campaign that should culminated in a Pioneers NCAA Tournament berth.
We’ve begun our season preview series with a look at the team’s roster by the numbers, and that is just the start.
First, we wanted to relaunch the Magness Mayhem Podcast for its second season (this is the website’s fifth season). We start by focusing on a pair of alumni who were back in town this summer to train with fellow past as well as current Pioneers.
Defenseman Josiah Didier helped the Charlotte Checkers capture the American Hockey League’s Calder Cup last June. The Colorado native checks in to talk about that and how he looks forward to training in his home town every summer.
Fellow blue line Tariq Hammond stops by to discuss his first season of pro hockey and his clean bill of health. Hammond is two years removed from a devastating injury in the 2017 National Championship game. He, too, discusses the rare camaraderie that he and his fellow alums share.
Both players also weigh in on the Pioneers’ success last season in David Carle‘s first campaign in the captain’s chair. And Hammond also discussed the team’s leadership group, one that he helped mentor.
We hope you enjoy our first Magness Mayhem Podcast of the season!
