Logan O’Connor’s game has been coming on of late. The sophomore forward has teamed with Evan Janssen and Tyson McLellan to form a disruptive line, and he and Janssen are Denver’s top penalty-killing duo. O’Connor’s 10 points already are two and a half times his output from his freshman season, and he played in his 24th game on Saturday, one more than he played in all last season.

He was gracious enough to tee off on some one-time passes from us this week.

Are you a music guy?

A little bit, but not a lot. Hip hop and rap.

If you had to pick a DJ on the team who would it be?

Probably Sean Mostrom

What does he serve up?

Relaxing music and new music that no one has really heard.

Do you have a favorite hockey road trip?

I love road trips in general, just be with the team. There’s no other distractions. You’re just away from everything else. The best memories are created there.

What is the breakfast of Champions?

A good omlete. Nothing crazy. And a nice glass of orange juice.

Who is the team comedian?

Troy Terry. He is always cracking jokes in the locker room, always keeping things light.

What is your favorite part about Denver?

For me it reminds me a lot of home. I’m from Calgary. Denver has the same atmosphere and feel. Calgary is smaller, but it has mountains close and a similar landscape. The people are similar, always polite and willing to help.

You’ve been very effective on the penalty kill this year, so would you rather stop the other team from scoring or score a goal yourself?

It’s always more fun to score goals. Any forward would say that.

Do you have a favorite hockey player?

Brendan Gallagher of the Montreal Canadiens. It’s not like he was around when I was growing up, but I aspire to play like him. He’s gritty, wiling to go to the dirty areas,  leads by example. You can count on to bring his best.

Did you have any family memebers who played hockey?

My dad (Myles) played pro hockey. He had a cup of coffee in Anaheim and New Jersey in the old IHL. He was a fighter so might have seen him.

I suppose you didn’t cross him much when you were a kid.

Definitely not.

Do you have a favorite hockey memory?

During my second year in the USHL I was fortunate to win a Clark Cup (with Sioux Falls). The experience with those guys, you can’t really replace that. We’ll always be known as champions.

Are you particular about any of your gear?

My skates. I am sort of a skate Nazi. I need them a certain way. It’s the most important part of your gear. I want them to be exactly how I want them. Our equipment man, Nick Meldrum, does a great job helping me.

Did you play other sports growing up?

I was on the rugby team, did Cross country, track, volleyball, badminton and lacrosse. I played a lot of high school sports. … I think it’s so crucial for kids to play as many as they can. Try what they can, meet different groups of peple. When it’s time to pick and choose, go one way or another. It’s great when you’re a kid to play as many as you can.

Do you follow other sports?

Football. We have a good group of guys who follow football. Everyone enjoys chatting about their football news.

Who would be the top candidate to be a pro wrestler on the team?

Sean Mostrom. It’s just the type of guy he is. He’d do well with the wrestling group of guys.
