The Pioneers play a home-and-home series against NCHC rival Colorado College on Friday at Magness Arena and Saturday in Colorado Springs.
CC has had the misfortune of playing top-10 teams in its past six games, all losses. The Tigers are off to a 0-8 start amid a series of personnel losses. All-everything sophomore defenseman Jaccob Slavin signed an NHL contract this past off season. Sophomore defenseman Garrett Cecere left the team two weeks ago to return to Sioux Falls of the USHL. And sophomore forward Jordan Berger decided to retire due to ongoing concussion problems.
This past weekend, the Tigers played host to top-ranked North Dakota and played them relatively close. North Dakota won 5-2 on Friday and 2-0 on Saturday.
On Friday, sophomore Teemu Kivihaime and freshman Cole McCaskill scored goals for CC, and freshman goaltender Jacob Nehama made 32 saves in a game the Tigers were outshot 37-21. CC went 1 for 7 on the power play and killed off 3 of 4 penalties.
On Saturday, junior goalie Tyler Marble made 40 saves and the Tigers killed off all four shorthanded situations. CC generated 29 shots in the loss.
